If you or your child is new to Pokemon Organized Play, here are some things you
should know:
How does this tournament work?
In this event, players will build a deck from the cards they receive, and play
all games using this deck. Unlike normal Pokemon games (which use a 60
card deck and play with 6 prizes), this tournament will be played with 40 card
decks and 4 prizes, to keep the game simpler.
Along with the 6 booster packs, each player will receive a card list with the
names of all of the cards in the set. After opening the packs, each player
must record the number of each card he/she has received. Parents are
permitted to assist younger children with this.
Each player then builds a 40 card deck (including energy) using the cards from
their 6 booster packs. We will provide basic energy cards for the players
to use. Only the cards from the boosters and basic energies can be used.
Players are not permitted to add their own cards or trade cards with other
players. Players may not change their deck during the tournament.
The challenge for the players is to determine which Pokemon to play and which to
leave out. Generally, decks in this format will have with approximately 18
to 20 Pokemon, the few trainers that were received, and the rest Energy cards
(15 - 20). 30 minutes are allotted for deck building.
The tournament is played using Swiss format, which means that players are paired
against opponents with the same win/loss record in their age group, if possible.
All players play in every round. The number of rounds depends on
attendance, but usually these events are 5 rounds long. Each round is 30
minutes long. At the end of the Swiss rounds, the winners are determined
by record. Ties are broken using Opponents Winning Percentage.
This event starts at 11:30am. By the time registration is completed and
announcements are made, we should be opening packs around 11:45. This
means the first round should start about 12:15. We will not have a lunch
break, but the All Star Cafe is onsite and food is available. The event should end between
3:00 and 4:00.
POP IDs
Everyone playing in the event must have a Pokemon Organized Play (POP) ID
number. If you have played in the Pokemon TCG League or in previous
tournaments, you already have a POP ID. If not, we will assign one to you
at the event. Please bring your POP ID card or at least the number if you
have one.
